The Employment Justice
Center has truly experienced a year of triumph! From successfully passing the
Paid Sick Leave legislation, to pushing the Wage Theft Prevention Act through
to its second vote before DC Council, to serving 700 workers in our clinic this
spring alone; EJC and its supporters have been winning the fight against
workplace injustice.
Labor Day is
the celebration of the American Labor Movement and for us it is the anniversary
of EJC's inception. It is an opportunity for us to honor the strength,
achievements, and dedication of our nation’s workers. Without our workers
none
of these victories would be possible.
This year we
have a very special keynote speaker joining us, Ai-Jen Poo. Ai-Jen Poo is the
director of the National Domestic Worker's Alliance and the Co-director of the
Caring Across Generations campaign. She has been organizing immigrant women
workers since 1996 and has done groundbreaking work to reform laws in New York
to improve the working conditions for domestic workers. Amongst many other
accolades, Ai-Jen Poo's dedicated work has led to her being selected as one of
Time Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential People in the
World.
