Tuesday, July 19, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Next
week educators, teachers and parents
from across the country will converge on DC “to reclaim schools as
places of learning, joy, and democracy.” The Save Our Schools March
& National Call to Action -- endorsed by both the
AFT and NEA -- seeks to
organize “to revitalize an education
system that, for too many children, focuses more on test preparation
than actual education.” A major Save Our Schools march on the White
House on Saturday, July 30 will be preceded
by a series of education-themed events and actions, including a film festival July 25th- 29th, conferences
promoting
educational activism July 28th and 29th, the March on the White House July 30th,
and a congress
deciding future goals July 31st.
