Friday, February 4, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
The community
advocacy day organized by the Living Wages, Healthy Communities
Coalition, postponed due to last week's snowstorm, has been rescheduled for next
Monday, February 7. Coalition canvassing also continues this weekend. "In just
four days we have collected nearly 500 cards in support of strong, enforceable,
Community Benefit Agreements," reports organizer Mike Wilson. CLICK HERE to sign up. On
Monday, "We will be meeting at the Wilson Building at 9A," says Wilson. "Join us
as we urge Council members to make Walmart respect DC by signing enforceable
Community Benefits Agreements guaranteeing that Walmart pays decent wages, hires
local residents, and does not harm small businesses and the environment."
There's also a rally and press conference at 12:30P on Monday at the Wilson
Building.
