IBEW Conference Delegates Plug Into DC
Wednesday, January 19, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Surging to their feet, the 400 delegates at the IBEW Minority
Caucus’ Leadership Conference responded enthusiastically to Metro Washington
Council President Jos Williams’ exhortation Saturday to “’Get up, stand
up, don’t give up the fight,’ in the immortal words of Bob Marley!” The
21st annual conference’s theme was “Strong Enough to Thrive in Hard Times”
and in addition to political workshops and addresses by leaders including
Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis and the Rev. Al Sharpton, delegates at the 3-day
conference participated in local community service activities, including doing
electrical work at Covenant House Friday, organized by IBEW Local 26 and the
Community Services Agency.
