Free Choice "Victory Is In Sight"
Thursday, September 3, 2009(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
”What’s at stake is power and the very conscience of our
country,” declared AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Richard Trumka (r) last
night at the Employee Free Choice Act fundraiser atop the AFL-CIO. “We’ve
gotten the ball down to the 5-yard line. Now we need to get it across the
line.” Trumka joined AFL-CIO President John Sweeney, Executive Vice President
Arlene Holt Baker and American Rights at Work Chair David Bonior in thanking the
hundreds of labor leaders and activists gathered in perfect September weather on
the 8th-floor terrace overlooking the White House -- “Where we finally have a
friend,” said Holt Baker, noting that this was the first time in many years
the terrace had been able to open – for their help raising over $10,000 at
this event and millions more for the ongoing media campaign that’s aired tens
of millions of ads supporting the Employee Free Choice Act. “There is power in
the union and power in the labor movement,” concluded Bonior. “Victory is in
sight!”
