Health Care Reform Heats Up Through August

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

The AFL-CIO has officially kicked off its Thirty Day Campaign to get Congress to “side with working families - not insurance companies - on health care reform,” reports AFL-CIO President John Sweeney. “Please join us for a meeting to discuss field plan roll-out and message training,” says AFL-CIO Turn Around America Health Care Reform Campaign National Field Coordinator Katie Gjertson, telling Union City that coordinating meetings are scheduled today at 2P and Thursday at 10A.  “Congress’ choice comes down to this,” adds Sweeney, “Side with health insurers and vote for legislation that continues their control over health care in America, or vote for reform that puts people in charge of their health care.” The campaign – which is sponsored by Turn Around America and Health Care for America Now! – will work to generate support for President Obama’s health reform proposal through town hall and leadership meetings with Congressional members, in addition to “election-style” local union communications with members urging them to call their Members of Congress. – photo: labor activists rally for health care reform on Capitol Hill in June; photo by Adam Wright
