More than 200 union members and their families enjoyed ribs, burgers and hot dogs while mingling with labor-endorsed candidates at the Northern Virginia Labor Federation's 3rd annual July 4 picnic in Annandale, VA. Joining in the festivities were State Senator Creigh Deeds (at left, with Don Bauman of IUOE 99), who has labor's support in his race for governor, and Jody Wagner, who has also won union backing for lieutenant governor. Incumbents and candidates for the House of Delegates from throughout Northern Virginia also met with the activists. Congressman Gerry Connolly, an early supporter of the Employee Free Choice Act, rallied support for the ticket, reminding the union members that redistricting is at stake in this election. "The weather was great, the food fantastic and the spirits of those with us were even better," noted NoVA Labor Federation President Daniel Duncan. "This reminded all that GOTV efforts will start soon."
