More than 450 union members, families and friends gathered at
the Sheraton Tyson Premiere Friday evening to celebrate the Northern Virginia
Area Labor Federation's Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner. Keynote speaker
OPEIU President Michael Goodwin fired up the crowd in support of the Employee
Free Choice Act and the need for health care for all. Both Northern Virginia
co-sponsors of the Employee Free Choice Act - Congressmen Jim Moran and Gerry
Connolly – attended, and the record crowd heard from all three Democratic
candidates for governor as well as all three Democrats seeking the office of
lieutenant governor. The primary is June 9. The dinner also featured music from
members of AFM Local 161-710, a first, and NoVA Labor President Daniel Duncan
thanked all – including dinner co-chairs Lynn Clark and Shannon Sullivan - who
made the evening a success.
