March Heats Up
Tuesday, March 24, 2009(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
As the mercury begins to rise, the action heats up for district
activists. Today: Students
& Workers March For Free Choice Act; a symposium explores
how the immigration system is failing and highlights the challenges facing
immigrant workers under the H-2B visa program; a seminar discusses
workplace rights and how to exercise them on the job; and a workshop provides
activists with creative organizing techniques using the arts for social change.
Thursday: ACLU
Bill of Rights Luncheon recognizes Professor Nadine Strossen for
over 18 years of service to the American Civil Liberties Union of the National
Capital Area. Friday: US Foodservice workers
rally to protest their employer's repeated attempts at
union-busting and workers at the Crystal City Sheraton will rally to
demand justice for a fired co-worker and their right to a card-check
system.
