Wynn's Record Lauded

Friday, January 11, 2008

"What would you say to an employer who wanted to throw out a worker with an exemplary record after 15 years?" Metro Council President Jos Williams asked the crowd of union members packed into the IBEW Local 26 lobby Thursday morning. “Hell no!” they roared back. "Well, Al Wynn has an exemplary record on the Hill and he says Hell No!" Williams said. Wynn has been endorsed for U.S. Congress in Maryland’s 4th District by the Metro Washington Council and the Maryland/DC State AFL-CIO. Among those speaking in Wynn’s support Thursday were Prince George's County COPE co-chair Faith Jones, IBEW 26 Business Manager Chuck Graham and Maryland State Comptroller Peter Franchot. In brief remarks, Wynn expressed strong support for the Employee Free Choice Act. He also stressed the importance of unions, expressed support for prevailing wages, advocated an end to tax cuts for corporations that ship jobs overseas and shared a vision of “creating a better country and world for young union members.” The Maryland Primary is Tuesday, February 12. -reported by Rick Powell, Metro Council Political Coordinator
