Labor Graduates

Thursday, June 21, 2007

Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) will address over 100 newly-minted graduates at the 9th Annual National Labor College (NLC) graduation commencement this Saturday at 10A. “We are enormously privileged to have Senator Harkin address our students,” says Susan Schurman, NLC President. Harkin – son of a coal miner – is a longtime supporter of labor education. He is also “an original co-sponsor of the Employee Free Choice Act and a leading champion for working people,” Schurman says. This year’s graduating class consists of union members, leaders, activists and staff members from across the country who finished Bachelor and Graduate degrees in a variety of disciplines including Labor History, Safety and Health, Union Leadership and Administration, Political Economy of Labor and Labor Education, Public Administration, Organizational Development and Legal and Ethical Studies. The National Labor College is the only accredited college in the world exclusively dedicated to educating union members, leaders, activists and staff. 2004 National Labor College IBEW Graduates, photo from IBEW website
