JC Turner Award for Outstanding Trades Unionist of the Year: JIMMY TARLAU

Monday, March 10, 2014

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

This top award for the union leader who most typifies the characteristics of a trade unionist is not necessarily awarded every year. CWA District 2-13’s Jimmy Tarlau (right), this year’s recipient, has earned our recognition several times over, having been a fixture at virtually every local union event, taking part in demonstrations, actions and political campaigns throughout the local labor community. He’s also a regular and active Board member of the Metro Washington Council. Jimmy has been a tireless fighter for workers’ rights and is also a strong community leader, serving for the last six years on the City Council of Mount Rainer, Maryland. He embodies our campaign encouraging union members to run for public office and is now taking it to the next level, running hard for the Maryland General Assembly, a gutsy shoe-leather campaign which has been enthusiastically endorsed by the Metro Washington Council. In addition to his unending commitment to working people, Jimmy is simply a great guy. Tarlau will be recognized as Outstanding Trades Unionist of the Year at the March 15 Evening with Labor; email kmckirchy@dclaborarchives.org for ticket info.
