Elevator Constructors Recognize Newest Mechanics(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

The accomplishments of Elevator Constructors Local 10’s newest mechanics were recognized at the local’s Graduation Dinner ceremonies on February 22. “These new elevator mechanics attend our apprenticeship for four years,” says Sonny Yeatman Jr., Area Coordinator for National Elevator Industry Education Program (NEIEP) Region 15. “After the four years they must take a mechanic examination and receive a 70% or better on this 160 question test that's based on all four years of their education. We are the only trade that does this (so) we make it a big deal.” Yeatman thanked Metro Washington Council Political Coordinator Rick Powell for attending the ceremony, saying that “it really makes a difference to these new journeymen.”  Click here for a photo gallery. photo (l-r): Sonny Yeatman, graduate Shawn Himeon holding daughter Charlee, Himeon's wife Jennifer, and Dave Geib, Local 10 Business Manager.
