Maryland State Employees Ratify New Contract(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Maryland State employees have voted by a large margin to ratify a one year contract securing a pay raise, resumption of pay step increases and other economic benefits. The contract was ratified 4,756 to 81 in a ballot count on Feb 18. “It’s a good day for all hard working state employees who provide the vital public services that make Maryland happen,” said AFSCME Maryland Council 3 President Patrick Moran. Update: at press-time Thursday, AFSCME Maryland reported that "the Department of Legislative Services is recommending cutting and postponing our raise, step increases and health premium holidays to balance the state budget" and is lobbying on the issue and planning a rally in Annapolis on March 17.
