Unions, Allies Target Delaney in "10 Days To Stop Fast Track" Campaign
Friday, January 31, 2014(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
With key lawmakers greasing
the skids for Democratic
President Barack
Obama’s “fast track” trade proposal, unions and 60 allied groups have
launched
a “10 Days To Stop Fast Track” coalition to kill it, with nationwide
protests
scheduled for today, including a noontime demo at Rep. John Delaney’s (D, MD 6)
Gaithersburg office. The aim of the drive, which CWA is coordinating, is to put
enough pressure on lawmakers to get them to deep-six fast track, also called
Trade Promotion Authority. Some 150 House Democrats and 28 Republicans
already oppose fast track. The campaign runs through the end of January.
It includes a national “Call Congress Day” on Jan. 29, meetings with
lawmakers
in their districts and use of social media such as reddit, and a
“twitterstorm” during Obama’s Jan. 28 State of the Union address, opposing
his
demand for quick approval of fast track. Click here for more,
including an online petition. - PAI
