MontCo & PG Minimum Wage Votes Set for This Week(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Two important votes to increase area minimum wages will be taken this week. On Tuesday, November 26th the Montgomery County Council will vote on a bill increasing the county minimum wage. The next day, Wednesday, November 27, the Prince George’s County Council will vote to increase their minimum wage as well. “We are on the verge of achieving a great victory,” says Metro Council Political Coordinator Rick Powell “I know this is the holiday week but these votes are important. If you can come out to show your support it will be much appreciated. Wear your union colors so we can let everyone know that organized labor cares about all workers, especially low-wage workers and their families.” The Metro Washington Council has been working on this issue in coalition with affiliates and community allies, including UFCW 1994, UFCW 400, Respect DC, Progressive Maryland, Jews United For Justice, the NAACP and others. The DC City Council is also expected to vote soon on increasing the minimum wage in the District.
