Federal Unions Prep Members for Sequestration Impact(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)As the clock ticked down this week towards implementation of significant spending cuts on Friday, unions at federal agencies throughout the region held meetings with their members about the impact of the sequestration. “We are meeting with many of the workers we represent to provide them with information, to involve them in the union’s fight for a fair budget and to urge them to become members of the union if they are not already members” says AFSCME Council 26 Executive Director Carl Goldman. Meeting topics included how to prepare for sequestration, employee rights in the event of a furlough, and an explanation of what the sequestration is and what it means for each agency. CSA Executive Director Kathleen McKirchy was on hand, providing information on preventing financial hardships.
