Trades Push for Vote on National Harbor Resort Casino

Friday, June 29, 2012

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)With thousands of jobs and millions in revenue at stake, gaming supporters are pushing the Maryland Assembly to bring a National Harbor casino to a vote soon. “The National Harbor Resort Casino in Prince George's County will create thousands of jobs and millions in funding for education and other essential public services,” said the Building Trades for the National Harbor coalition earlier this week. Yet, while 83% of Marylanders believe the State should let voters decide on gaming and 92% of Prince George's County voters want to decide on gaming in their own county, “our leaders have failed to reach a consensus to allow the voters to decide whether this facility should be built.  Their inability to agree means Marylanders don't have a choice,” added the coalition, which is urging supporters to send a message to elected officials “that Marylanders deserve the right to decide.”
