DC COPE Report: Ending "Pay-to-Play" Politics in DC

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

DC COPE Report: Ending (Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)DC Ballot Initiative 70, which prohibits corporations and other business entities from making certain direct political contributions “Is a vital effort to get money out of politics and restore power to the hands of the people” says Metro Washington Council President Jos Williams. And with just five weeks left to collect enough signatures from registered voters in the District, “We urgently need your help to end ‘pay-to-play’ politics in the District of Columbia,” Williams adds. Initiative 70 would ban direct contributions by business to principal campaign committees, exploratory committees, legal defense committees organized in support of public officials, transition committees, inaugural committees, or constituent-service programs. To find out how to help get the Initiative on the ballot, contact Legislative and Political Assistant Alya Solomon at asolomon@dclaborarchives.org or check out dcpublictrust.org
