99% Spring Blossoms in DC

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)More than 100,000 activists are expected to train for non-violent direct action across the country this week as part of the 99% Spring. The labor movement is deeply involved in these trainings, from the AFL-CIO to the UAW, as well as Jobs with Justice and many more unions and groups. Here in the metro DC area, DC Jobs with Justice and the Metro Washington Council are sponsoring a local training at the AFL-CIO on April 15. “This spring we rise!” write 99% Spring coordinators in a February 15 letter to America. “We will take non-violent action in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi to forge a new destiny, one block, one neighborhood, one city, one state at a time.” The trainings are open to all and will focus on telling the story of economic inequality, the history of non-violent direct action, and how to step up action in campaigns across the country.
