2011 Evening with Labor Winners: Outstanding Citizen
Wednesday, March 7, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Reverend Graylan Hagler is this year’s winner of the Wilhelmina Rolark
Outstanding Citizen Award. Reverend Hagler (at
right in photo) has been a stalwart fixture on local picket lines for
over 30 years. Supporting many locals and many struggles, Rev. Hagler never
hesitates to speak truth – loudly and fiercely – to power, actively
supporting the labor movement and community on issues from Walmart to the living
wage, safe and sick days legislation and other progressive issues and
activities. Like this award’s namesake, Rev. Hagler is also a tireless and
fearless champion of workers and folks on the periphery of the economy.
This is the second in our series this week
highlighting this year’s Evening with Labor award winners, selected for their
outstanding contributions to the metro-area labor movement in 2011. The 35th
annual Evening with Labor is this Saturday; email kmckirch@dclaborarchives.org to
reserve tickets.
